The day before
Set up tomorrow so the crew can start the moment they arrive.
- Charge phones and pack the essentials box: toiletries, snacks, water, tools, bedding
- Defrost the freezer, empty the fridge, and take out the trash
- Clear walkways, doorways, and driveways at both addresses
- Take photos of electronics wiring before you unplug the last of it
- Set aside cleaning supplies you will need after everything is loaded
Moving day
Your job today is availability and decisions, not heavy lifting.
- Walk the crew through the home and point out anything fragile or unusually heavy
- Confirm parking and building access for the truck
- Keep kids and pets safely occupied and out of doorways
- Do a final sweep of every room, closet, cabinet, and the garage before the truck leaves
- Lock up, take photos, and keep your essentials with you, not on the truck
After the move
Unpack with a plan instead of opening boxes at random.
- Beds first, then kitchen and bathrooms — everything else can wait a day
- Check furniture and boxes against your inventory before the crew leaves
- Update your address for ID, banking, insurance, and subscriptions
- Register kids for school and schedule any utility installations that need appointments
